Marsya has been asking me to take her for a camping trip for ages. I just hate going for a camping actually. It's not that I dislike nature that much but the idea of sleeping in a tent (rather than my heavenly comfortable soft bed) does not excite me that much. But then, it's Marsya.....if it's not becoz of her, I wouldnt even think twice.

.
So, this morning we packed our things & off we were to Raub. The original plan is to camp @ Jeram Besu which is an increasingly popular place for white water rafting. Jeram Besu is situated approximately 30 km from Raub, Pahang. However, when we reached the place, there are 2 buses of RMC students occupying the area. That leaves us with no choice but to opt for a different location.
.
.
After checking with the locals, we came to know about this place called Lata Jarum which is not very far away from Jeram Besu. There's this camping site by the name of Lubuk Semak at the Lata Jarum waterfalls which is a very tranquil & peaceful place. We were so lucky to have discovered this place as there are no sign of other people here except for us. There's a waterfall nearby & the water is super cold & clear.
.
.
It's a perfect spot for a camping activity with the basic facilities like toilets, parking & they even lit up the area at nite. With a fee of RM 4/person, who would be complaining. We then set up our tents & unpack our things. In no time, myself & Marysa are already in our swimming attire & set for the river. The water is damn cold - it's like swimming in an ice water !
.
.
We thought of having a BBQ that nite but luck is certainly not on our side. It rains the whole night long. So, there's nothing much can be done but to just dozed off. As it is, the place is already so cold......with the rain, you can imagine how cold it has been. Gggrrrrrrr.......
.
The next morning, after breakfast we went for a jungle tracking. Each of us have to pay RM10 for this - kira okay la. The so-called jungle is about 5 mins drive from the camping site & we were guided by the owner’s son, Angah. The goal for this jungle tracking is to go find the Rafflesia.
.
The whole journey took about 45 minutes of tracking through the jungle & hills. I was so exhausted – which explains my fitness level. There are lots & lots of walking & climbing to deal with. Nevertheless, we enjoyed it very much since there are lots of interesting sightings in terms of plants & animals that were found along the way – plus lots & lots of leeches hungry for our blood !

Sadly, our mission was somewhat un-accomplished as there’s no more blooming Rafflesia around. All Rafflesia that we found are already rotten up . However, there’s one which is in it’s way to bloom. According to Angah, it’ll be fully bloom in a week’s time. It’s just too bad for us then. How I’d wish I could just stayed there for another week just to see the fully bloomed Rafflesia. It would be one hell of an experience to be able to personally see & touch the biggest flower in the world !

Honestly, I should thanked Marsya for pursuing this trip. Suprisingly, I enjoyed it very much & would really like to do it again in the future. The next time I’m gonna stay for 3 days at least. A 2 days 1 nite trip like this is certainly insufficient. Asta la vista !!!

This where Madu Tualang came from – the one in the yellow circle is the beehive on a Tualang tree

A very unique spider web – too bad the spider ran away the moment I tried to snap it’s picture
